Being a mom can be incredibly rewarding, there is no other 24 hour a day job quite like it. In Tulsa these days there seems to be an overabundance of young mothers in the 20 -35 range, wow not sure if it is really increasing or if I am just getting older. Hmmm……
When my kids were young I would have killed for a site like T-Town Moms.
A place to connect and discuss every little fall or runny nose.
In those days we had obviously nothing online at all.
Only mothers day out and an occasional play date with friends.
Being able to access a forum, directory or real person 24/7 is so cool and so needed. At times being a mom can be pretty isolating especially when the child is under six.
T-Town Moms provides a place to share the joys and pains of motherhood with others going through similar life events. It is reassuring and comforting providing moms with a tool to have conversations with others in Tulsa. Helping moms create and expand their network of other mothers and offering them a way to connect, ask questions and give advice. If you havent noticed lately there seems to be a development in the mom and mom to be market with businesses like Baby Bump and GaGa GoGo offering the latest in the motherhood market. For more information on moms in Tulsa visit www.ttownmoms.com.
Oh and before I forget. I am the proud mother of my own three amazing and grown children, Jessica, Taylor and AnnaMarie they have taught me all I ever need to know.

How have you used social media in your business?
I use Social Media every day, it is the way I communicate with the world. I use 3 main social networking sites, Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter. I use these sites to not only promote my own business but also other business owners in my local market. Social Media is the best marketing tool, you will ever receive. Social Media is a cost effective alternative to tradition offline marketing.
How can you properly manage your time and still be effective with social media?
As a business owner the first item you should address when considering social media is what your objectives or goals are for implementing a social media program. What do you want to accomplish online with your marketing? Once you have your goals, then you need to create a social media marketing plan with realistic time commitments to your plan. You should never spend more than 45 minutes a day promoting your business online.
With so many people on social networks, how do you capture your target audience?
Limit yourself to specific networks and know your target market. Who are they? What are they are interested in? Be specific and consistent in how and when you market. Continue to brand your business with your target market and retain top of mind awareness. For example, if you are a venue or restaurant, MySpace is a good choice with a large volume of participants who are looking for fun, food and events.
If you are looking for business networking contacts , I would stick with Facebook or Linkedin.
Twitter is perfect for sending out concise targeted information, good for events, news, up to the minute information on current events happening in real time. Recently, I was approached by the Wall Street Journal, after posting a comment on Twitter about Facebook.
It just so happened that when I posted information concerning facebook , the journalist at the Wall Street Journal was looking for experienced Facebook users and needed some input for his story. Again, so amazing that someone in another part of the country in a profession that I normally wouldn’t know, was interested in what I had to say. Twitter is this amazing marketing machine that is changing the way we give and receive information, never underestimate the power of microblogging.
What are your 3 favorite social networks and why?
Actually WordPress is my favorite platform to work with; I am creative, so I enjoy creating informative and interesting blog websites. I encourage any small business owner to promote their business with blogs. By design blogs are ranked high in search engines and can give the public more information than a traditional website and a window into your personality and expertise as a business owner. Remember they are looking for connection. Facebook is my favorite to participate on and market business owners. It is a strange connection with people I only know through social networking. Strange I know, but so effective. I recently met a man who attended the same elementary school as I , amazing after thirty five years that we remembered each other.
So for many it is Social Networking is an emotional connection that you might not otherwise get through normal interaction in the real world. Facebook is also an excellent source for networking , In a year and half I have doubled my contacts and business through Facebook. Again never underestimate the value of Social Networks, embrace them and they will deliver great rewards.

As social media evolves, it takes on new meanings and incorporates more software applications.
New words in the field of social media are cropping up every day, take a look at “Attention Age” and “Social Commerce”.
Our Attention is shifting. Do you find that interesting? We live in a world of attention deficit folks. Maybe they are not really deficit of attention. Maybe they just have a different definition of what they find important and what gains their attention.
So first we had the Industrial Age, then it was the information age and now the attention age. I am not sure how many actually buy into the attention age, but it is fun to think about below is a diagram which helps to map it out.
According to Wikipedia Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media supports the human need for social interaction, using Internet- and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many).
It supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers into content producers.
Businesses also refer to social media as user-generated content (UGC) or consumer-generated media (CGM). Social media utilization is believed to be a driving factor in the idea that the current period in time will be defined as the Attention Age.
Social media can be said to have three components;
Social media are distinct from industrial media, such as newspapers, television, and film. While social media are relatively inexpensive and accessible tools that enable anyone (even private individuals) to publish or access information, industrial media generally require significant resources to publish information. Examples of industrial media issues include a printing press or a government-granted spectrum license.
“Industrial media” are commonly referred to as “traditional”, “broadcast” or “mass” media..
One characteristic shared by both social media and industrial media is the capability to reach small or large audiences; for example, either a blog post or a television show may reach zero people or millions of people.
The properties that help describe the differences between social media and industrial media depend on the study. Some of these properties are:
Primarily, social media depend on interactions between people as the discussion and integration of words to build shared-meaning, using technology as a conduit.
Social media has been touted as presenting a fresh direction for marketing by allowing companies to talk with consumers, as opposed to talking at them.
Social media is not finite: there is not a set number of pages or hours. The audience can participate in social media by adding comments, instant messaging or even editing the stories themselves.
Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures, video, rating and bookmarking. Technologies include: blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, crowdsourcing, and voice over IP, to name a few.
Examples of social media software applications include:

Hello, and thank you for checking out my blog. It is appropriately named Gina Holloway, because it is all about me and what I find interesting.
A couple of years ago I decided to change things up a bit and learn all that I could about an emerging field of Social Media, little did I know that it would change my career path and my professional skill set forever.
With the wisdom of traditional marketing and the knowledge of current technology I have been successful at developing social media marketing campaigns for business owners in the city of Tulsa. I use Social Media not only for business, but for fun and yes I even have a twitter handle , @gholloway. I am a member of the Oklahoma Social Media Club, and in my spare time, you guessed it, I read about social media.
I am fascinated with the infusion of Sociology and Technology and I have been fortunate to meet many people on-line and in our city who practice and teach it. So I love what I do, enjoy doing research and I am never intimidated by new technology. I have been fortunate to share my life with many creative people and occasionally I have the privilege of collaboration. So for me this blog is not only a place to share my professional self, but also to share information that will be helpful in navigating the highways of Social Media.
There are basic truths that everyone needs to know about social media and most of them you learned in Kindergarten:
You have to be playful – willing to play with new social media tools in new ways everyday.
You have to pay attention – Social Media is full of distraction, staying focused on what you want to achieve is of utmost importance.
You have to have a natural curiosity – always asking “why” or “why not”, curious people are driven to solve problems.
You have to play nice with others - When you work with social media you have to like people. People in this field are born networkers.
You have to have fun – Ok, not sure I learned this one in Kindergarten , but I know it is important. Never take yourself too seriously.

Yesterday Facebook made a number of mobile announcements in addition to a number of partners that made announcements about support for their Facebook mobile offerings. Rather than posting a bunch of articles about each of the news announcements, we’ve compiled all the announcements into a single list. It’s clear that an increasing percentage of Facebook users are using Facebook’s mobile services as their default method of accessing the site.
Yesterday Facebook announced that they had surpassed 65 million mobile users, accounting for approximately 25 percent of all Facebook users. As Facebook expands globally, there is no question that the percentage of Facebook users that access the site on their mobile devices will increase over time. While the best interfaces are found on the iPhone and Blackberry (and soon on Android devices), any mobile device with internet access can view the site.
Yesterday Nokia announced a new service called Ovi Lifecasting. In a relatively lengthy video (embedded below), Nokia highlights a new system which makes it possible to connect to your friends in real-time through a layer that’s built on top of Facebook. While the full functionality of the service isn’t really clear, it’s obvious that Nokia has realized that they need to provide integrated Facebook access in order to sell more phones.
Yesterday, T-Mobile announced that more sidekick devices can now access Facebook through a free application. The company is also attempting to sell a Twitter application for $1.99 (for some unknown reason) but all Facebook users can log in to Facebook for free. Over 65,000 people are already using Facebook for Sidekick but with this new version being accessible to older versions of the Sidekick, I’d expect that number to increase.
Developers now have another library for developing Connect-enabled versions of their applications for all mobile devices. While there is already services for the iPhone and the web in general, enabling Connect on basic mobile sites was not an easy task until now. Yesterday the company launched Facebook Connect for the Mobile Web. It functions like all other connect applications but increases the number of people that will now be able to view the apps.
